cold weather transmission problems. Purchased a 1999 E430 in August, 100,000 miles. Now that it is cold, it doesn't seem to want to shift out of 1st gear until car is extremely warm. Took it to a Mercedes dealer and no engine codes come up. At a loss as to what direction I should head.
If there is buzzing, clunking, humming noise. First disconnect your battery ground cable. (Very important) Then physically check your TCU module, and connector by disconnecting it and checking for any signs of oil or corrosion..

Turning the adjustment “T” clockwise (right) will increase the pressure and harden the shift. Counter clockwise will drop the pressure and soften the shift. Throttle pressure cable (bowden cable) is on the side of the engine by the oil filter. The throttle pressure cable tells the transmission when to shift.

2002 ML500 @ East Texas. It is stated that you can use either 236.10, 236.12 or 236.14 by MB. I prefer to stick with 236.10 as our 722.6 Boxes were made for it. The later specs, .12 and .14 were increasingly 'slippery' for the later 7 & 9 speed Boxes, whereas ours are 5 speed (aka '5Gtronic Transmission' see Wikipedia for exhaustive details).
