Timing chain/belt replacement. Hi all I just bought a i30 2013 it’s currently done 82k miles and I’m just wondering when I should replace my timing chain, I’m going to be doing the cambelt and water pump next or the week after. Any help would be appreciated. Add a Comment.
1 post · Joined 2019. #13 · Oct 3, 2019. just took my 2014 soul in for a problem and was told my timing chain needed to be replaced. Kia only warranty is up to 50,000 miles. My soul has 90,023 miles. Was told by the warranty people on the phone and 3rd party company that 100,000 is when this problem would accrue.
The 1.6 diesel i30 actually uses a timing chain, not a belt, so it should just need an inspection and an adjustment at regular servicing time, not a full replacement. Neil Briscoe - Complete Car Adviser @neilmbriscoe
Here are the steps to follow in order to replace the famous belt: Make sure to loosen the tensioner pulley if you want to loosen the belt. Remove the timing belt. Remove all the rollers and the water pump. Replace the new water pump. Place the rollers in their respective locations. Fix the timing belt in place following the marks.
The dealer recommends change of timing belt at 90000 or 120000 (Iam not sure). Some mechanics say changing at 90000 is good. I am not sure whether I should get it done at 120000 and get it over with. I want to avoid a situation in future where my timing belt breaks suddenly and I am stranded in the middle of nowhere.
It’s probably the serpentine belt that needs changing around that time. But yeah get a mechanic to have a look at the belt and check it for wear. I only paid $80 for the part recently at my mechanics and he just replaced it as part of the service. So no idea how much it should cost but probably shouldn’t cost too much.
Yes the 1.6 petrols are chain driven. It seems very strange that a chain woukd have skipped teeth. There is minumal slack once all guides are in place even without the tensioner. Very strange. A timing chain, however, makes this a non-issue. Chains are meant to last for as long as the lifetime of the vehicle. This can range from 150,000 to up to 200,000 miles, or between 10 and 15 years, on average. A new timing chain, will cost between $80 and $248 for parts alone. The 2014 hyundai i30 uses a timing chain isntead of a belt.
Hyundai i30 1.4 petrol fuel filter replacement interval: 60,000 km. Spark plugs. Recommended spark plugs change interval is 75,000 km. Timing chain. There is no manufacturer specified replacement interval for the engine timing chain on Hyundai i30 2016 1.4 petrol, expecting it to last until the engine is overhauled.
